Small Town Shooting Leaves One Injured

A man in Jacumba flagged down Border Patrol Agents Thursday after his friend had been shot by a resident of the 561-person town.

The shooting occurred at about 5:30 p.m on the 42000 Block of Old Hwy 80, near the U.S.-Mexican border, San Diego County Sheriffs said.

Rural deputies and a detective identified a person of interest in the shooting and are investigating the incident.

The victim sustained one small caliber gunshot wound to the back. He was taken via helicopter to Sharp Memorial Hospital and is being treated for a non-life threatening wound.

The Border Patrol agents who were flagged down reported the incident to the Sheriff’s department.
