Woman, 19, Hurt in Drive-By Shooting in Paradise Hills

The victim heard gunfire, then realized she had been shot

A young woman was wounded while inside her home in Paradise Hills Friday night in a suspected drive-by shooting; police said she heard the gunfire, and then realized she had been shot.

San Diego Police Department (SDPD) Officer Robert Heims said the shooting happened just before 11 p.m. along the 6200 block of Potomac Street and Calle Tortuosa in Paradise Hills.

The victim – a 19-year-old woman – was standing in her house when she heard several gunshots.

β€œAfter the shots were heard, she felt she had been shot,” said Heims.

The woman suffered a gunshot wound to her back, right above her tailbone, police said. She was taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.

A car was seen fleeing the neighborhood moments after the shooting. A neighbor who lives down the street told NBC 7 that someone drove up and started shooting at the victim's house.

For now, SDPD investigators said the only description of a possible suspect vehicle is a black, 2-door, older model Monte Carlo, possibly carrying two people. The investigation is ongoing.

No one else was injured.

a Gofundme page has been set up to help with the woman's injuries.
