A 34-year old woman who was not wearing a sidebelt flew out of a car and was pinned against a building, killing her, authorities confirmed to NBC 7.
The crash happened in the Pala area of San Diego County near State Route 76 on Pauma Ridge Road shortly before 9 a.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the driver, a 48-year old man, had been driving eastbound on West Fork Road when he crashed into a concrete retaining wall.
CHP Officer Jim Bettencourt said the woman in the passenger seat was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash, Bettencourt said.
She flew out of the truck and was pinned against the wall, Bettencourt said. The victim, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead on scene, Cal Fire Capt. Kendal Bortisser said.
The brakes on the truck appeared to have failed, officials said.
The driver did not suffere any injuries.
