A Central and Southern California heat wave has set records with highs topping 80 degrees in the dead of winter.
The National Weather Service says in San Diego County, Escondido's 87 beat the 86 recorded in 1969 and Alpine topped a 1969 record with a high of 82.
Santa Maria's airport recorded a maximum temperature of 82 on Tuesday -- 2 degrees above records for the day set in 1962 and 1918.
Santa Barbara's airport also had 82 degrees, well above the 78 recorded in 1964.
Highs in the low to mid-80s set or tied records in Camarillo, in Burbank and at UCLA.
The heat is expected to last through Wednesday, according to NBC 7’s Dagmar Midcap.
“It’s Thursday that we start to see the reversal of the pressure,” said Midcap. “So instead of the offshore flow, we’ll start to see the onshore, and that will bring us lower temperatures.”

Temperatures should drop back into the 60s by the weekend.
