A former Camp Pendleton Marine has been convicted of drunken driving for a crash that killed three of his buddies in Southern California.
The Orange County district attorney's office says 27-year-old Jared Ray Hale was found guilty Wednesday of DUI. Jurors also found that his blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit.
He's facing up to 12 years in state prison.
Prosecutors say in February 2012 the four Marines from Camp Pendleton spent three hours drinking at a tavern in Dana Point and then got into a car.
Authorities say Hale -- the designated driver -- lost control of the sedan on a corner and ran into a tree. The crash killed Christopher Arzola, 21; Jeremiah Callahan, 23; and Jason Chleborad, 22.
The defense argued that Hale had only one drink and the crash was due to rain-slick roads.
