Co-Suspect Confirmed in Alleged Officer-Involved Rape

University officials say alleged female accomplice worked on campus

Point Loma Nazarene University officials confirmed Wednesday an on-campus employee is a co-suspect in the alleged rape case involving a San Diego police officer and a university student.

The female co-suspect, whose name is not yet known, is suspected of introducing the police officer to the alleged victim. The co-suspect works at Sodexo, the university’s food service provider, and has been placed on leave.

Last week, the alleged victim told hosptial officials the police officer, whose name is known but will not be published until he is charged per NBC San Diego policy, and a woman raped her at an off-campus, East County location.

The officer was placed on unpaid leave last Friday.

Point Loma Nazarene says it is cooperating fully with the investigation and is keeping students informed.

The university has urged students to respect the alleged victim's privacy.

“I was just really impressed with how straightforward they were with all the students and just really caring not to spread any gossip,” said Andie Adams, a Point Loma Nazarene student. “They didn't want any rumors to be spread amongst the students and they just wanted to put everything out there right off the bat.”
