San Diego lost a journalist and civic leader Thursday.
Herb Klein was an icon at the Union-Tribune. He moved up the ranks to editor-in-chief of Copley newspapers. Klein, who spent time at the White House as President Richard Nixon's director of communications, was a football fanatic who helped bring the Super Bowl to San Diego.
Klein died at his home in La Jolla, according to family members.
