If you went to the fair Monday, only to find it was closed, you're not alone. The San Diego County Fair closed their doors for the day on Monday. The fair will also be closed Monday, June 22, so make sure to mark your calendars to avoid making the mistake many San Diegans unfortunately already made.

One hopeful fair-goer drove down to the Del Mar fairgrounds looking for a fun-filled day with her children, only to find herself being turned away at the door. She said there was a large amount of cars already there who didn't know the fairgrounds were closed and had to make a big u-turn and head back home.

So why is the fair closed these two days you ask? The two Monday closures are to give all the hardworking fair employees a much-needed break, according to the Del Mar Fairgrounds media relations department.

The 2009 San Diego County Fair opened  June 12 and has been a big success so far. Plenty of big name stars will be making appearances this year, including several American Idol stars. You can see the full list here. There is still plenty of time to attend the fair -- it runs through Sunday, July 5. Visit SDFair.com to purchase your tickets.
