An Aztecs star basketball player accused of burglary allegedly told a San Diego police detective he unplugged a stolen TV.

The detective testified Wednesday that San Diego State star Lorenzo Wade told him he unplugged the television that was allegedly taken by a friend from a woman's College Area apartment and that he and the friend were just "joking around."

The woman whose television was allegedly stolen said the defendants denied the burglary even as they were holding onto the TV, according to court testimony.

Wade, a senior forward, has been suspended from the basketball team indefinitely. He and co-defendant Brian Ware face felony burglary charges stemming from a September incident.

Police said a woman in an apartment in the city's College neighborhood woke to the sound of knocking at her door, then heard people enter the apartment. She waited until the intruders left, then went outside and confronted Wade and his companion.

Wade, who lives in the same apartment complex as the woman, turned himself in to police on Oct. 7.

The preliminary hearing for both men will continue Thursday. Judge Charles Rogers will then have to determine if there is enough evidence for the men to stand trial. If convicted, they face up to six years in prison.

Wade was a first-team All-Mountain West Conference pick last season, when he was San Diego State's leading scorer with an average of 14.8 points. He was named to the preseason All-MWC team.
