Report: Tijuana Takes 500 Cops off the Street

Law-enforcement officials from the military and state and federal agencies temporarily replaced hundreds of Tijuana officers who were relieved of duty, according to a published report.
Officials said the municipal officers were going to undergo "retraining" and background checks near Tecate at a state police academy, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported. Officers who are flagged during the training and investigation process will by let go by the department, according to the paper.
Last week, 20 city officers were arrested for suspicion of working the criminal gangs operating in the region.
