Nineteen Tijuana officer and two Baja state agents suspected of ties to organized crime were taken into custody at Mexican military bases earlier this week, according to a published report.
Among those arrested was the Tijuana police department's U.S. law enforcement agency liaison, Javier Cardenas, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
At least some of the arrests took place Monday at the Morelos military base, which is located in Tijuana, the paper reported.
A Mexican official said about 200 officers have been removed from the force in the last 11 months, according to the Union-Tribune.
