For the second time this week, same-sex marriage supporters protested outside the Mormon Temple in University City

Protesters are angry that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints contributed millions of dollars in campaign support to help pass Proposition 8. The proposition, which voters passed last week, bans same-sex marriage in California.

"The Mormon Church is a small percentage in California, and yet they raised the largest percentage of funds against the gay population, and I totally disagree with it," said Stephen Murdock said.

Since Election Day, protesters have been targeting Mormon churches all across the nation.

"I don't think as a member of the Mormon Church that I'm necessarily being picked on," Scott Bennion said. "I think Christianity as a whole is being picked on."

Bennion supported Prop 8 because, he said, the Bible defines marriage as a union between a man a woman.

"It was not our intention to hurt them," Bennion said. "It was to protect the integrity of marriages and families."

The Mormon Church released a statement saying, in part, "It is wrong to target the church and its sacred places of worship for being part of the Democratic process."

Chris Clark, the  pastor at East Clairemont Baptist Church, agrees.

"It is appalling that churches are being singled out and persecuted for standing for their convictions, standing for what they believe to be true," Clark said.
