People who went to workout at their favorite gym where shocked to find the doors locked and a note on the door.  That was in January and hard feelings linger.  Some people, like Debbie Buccigrossi had just written a check for $600 for a year's membership.  But the next day the gym was locked and the owners had left an apology.  Dave and Sonya Stauffer blamed the economy but never mentioned giving employees or members their money back.

On Friday May First the gym will reopen with new owners.  Rachel Thomas and Laura Rose Cizilikas hope to win back some of the old members as they open the Gym in Del Mar.

"Let 'em know we are here.  We have a friendly staff.  We're the building owners so we've made a commitment, we're here to stay," said Rachel Thomas.  Thomas said they will not be able to honor old contracts but they are trying to work out bargain memberships for people who lost money when the old gym closed.

Former trainer Mitch McIntyre is now managing the new club and said people are appreciating the new look and ownership.  "They look at the changes that are made, they look at the new equipment, they look at the open spaces...there's something different going," said McIntyre.
