Obedience Training for Owners

Leave an animal in the car unattended or walk your pet without a leash and you could end up in pet school.
San Diego County Board of Supervisors approved the program this week offering pet owners the chance to go to pet school rather than pay a fine according to a published report.
Starting Nov.12, under the Responsible Pet Ownership program residents of some parts of the county can opt to pay $80 to attend the school rather than pay an expensive fine.
“We think this is an innovative program,” Department of Animal Services Director Dawn Danielson told the Ramona Sentinel. “It should free up the courts.”
The three-hour class, to be held once a month at shelter on Gaines Street, will cover topics such as proper animal care, animal laws, and pet ownership responsibilities.
If the pet owner completes the program, a certificate will be provided to prosecutors to remove fines or convictions from the owner’s record.
Qualifying offenses include leash law violations, animals left unattended in cars and other minor neglect violations, according to the paper.
