A cyclist who died this weekend after colliding with a truck in Mission Valley is being remembered as a caring human being who loved the outdoors.
It was supposed to a beautiful bike ride on a sunny Saturday afternoon. But the ride took a tragic turn when Ben Acree, 60, tried to change lanes.
Acree hit the side of a large commercial truck, which was heading eastbound on Friars Rd. near Rancho Mission Rd. Medics responded, but Acree died at the scene.
“I'm absolutely horrified,” said neighbor Yvonne Wylie. “Oh, I'm just heart sick.”
For 25 years, Acree worked in real estate and founded AWS Commercial Real Estate in San Diego.
“He was very successful in what he did professionally,” said Wylie.
She says he was conscientious, caring and loved the outdoors.
“Just very concerned about his health and his well being,” said Wylie. “Always swam in the pool. Great bike rider.”
She says he also loved to travel with his wife.
The truck driver was not cited. Police say alcohol was not a factor.
