Decades of fans will mourn the silencing of Harry Martin's voice.

Decades of fans will mourn the silencing of Harry Martin's voice.

KOGO radio confirmed Tuesday morning that Martin, who was know to fans as the Happy Hare, passed away on Monday. He was 81.

Martin was so popular as a morning DJ that he rode in parades and, had he not stepped in to stop, may have been elected mayor, all because of an on-air joke.

Martin was known as the Voice of San Diego. He was working as late as last year.
