It is simply an opportunity for black teens to feel appreciated and beautiful, and thus to feel EQUALLY beautiful as white girls.<br /><br />Secondly, did it ever occur to any of you that perhaps the reason that they hold a pageant for black women is because there is very little chance of them winning the general pageant? Since they are a small percentage of the population, how often is it possible for them to win the pageant?<br /><br />Also, is should come as no surprise that the standards of beauty in this society are European-based, and thus the majority of the black women who participate in this pageants are light-skinned and/or have colored eyes, etc. Therefore, in my opinion, the pageant does not tackle the real issue of racism in this country, for it is itself engaging in narrow perceptions of beauty.<br /><br />I believe that individuals claiming reverse discrimination, or those individuals who do feel entitled simply because they are a minority (which there are some) are both at fault in this case because the pageant is about attempting to make girls feel beautiful in their own skin. However, in order for this to truly be accomplished, there needs to be an open dialogue in this country on racism- both the open insults and the subconscious opinions thereof that many people have. There should not be a pageant simply for black women, but until racism is eliminated from our social fabric, they are NECESSARY to help black women feel beautiful too."}],"error":"","totPages":2}
