A young U.S. woman who was kidnapped last week near the border was rescued, according to prosecutors in Baja California.

The 21-year-old woman was found in a closet in Tijuana on Saturday after a suspect was detained by U.S. authorities in San Diego, assistant state prosecutor Fermin Gomez said. He said Monday that the suspect told police where to find the woman, whose name was not released. She was found bound and beaten. Two other suspects were also arrested, according to investigators.

The kidnappers snatched the woman from her car Wednesday and threatened to kill her unless they were paid $200,000, Gomez said.

The victim is a San Diego student with homes in Mexico and in the U.S. who met the kidnappers at a Tijuana club, Mexican officials told a local paper.

The U.S. consulate in Tijuana could not confirm the report of the kidnapping.
