Accusations and denials fly Wednesday about whether more cases of improper sexual contact between teachers and students involving Helix Charter High School have taken place than were previously report

A report of a man carrying a gun near campus put Helix High School on lockdown Tuesday was a hoax according to La Mesa police and school administrators.

A student reported seeing a man with a handgun in the waistband of his pants inside the bathroom by the football field around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday. The student then told a teacher who reported the incident to the resource officer on campus.

On Wednesday, police now say the student "fabricated the incident" but they are not sure why the student lied.

The high school and two nearby schools were locked down for at least an hour while officers searched the campus.

Police searched the campus for more than an hour looking for a suspect carrying a gun.

Police cars are parking in the Helix High School parking lot.

The student who made the false report could face school discipline and/or criminal charges.
