The Gaslamp Quarter purse thief is now in custody, thanks to a tip called in to the San Diego County Crime Stoppers tip line. Christopher Glasby was arrested around 2 p.m. on July 8 in Pacific Beach. He was booked on multiple counts of theft of an access card, identity theft, petty theft with priors and burglary.

San Diego County Crime Stoppers joined forces with San Diego Police Department Central Division detectives to help catch Glasby. He was responsible for several thefts that occurred between May 10 and June 20, 2009 in the Gaslamp area.

Glasby entered the restaurant or business and distracted the hostess or receptionist by either asking for a job application or turning in a resume. Then, as the employee left the front desk, Glasby stole a wallet or purse from that area. He then used the victim’s credit cards to purchase Visa gift cards.

The San Diego Police advise employees in the Gaslamp and downtown San Diego areas not to leave their wallets or purses in areas which are easily accessible to the public.
