A California newspaper has put together a tool that shows the toll the sour economy has had on individual counties, cities and companies.

By entering "San Diego" into the SacBee.com's data base, site visitors can review more than 100 companies in the county who have laid employees off since January 2007.

The list may not be complete, but it is sobering. BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair is listed as laying off 633 workers on Aug. 18; Health Care Group of La Mesa let go 237 employees on Dec. 15; and Callaway Golf up in Carlsbad pink-slipped 154 people on Oct. 18.

Go to the SacBee.com's "See Who Is Laying off Workers" for more details.
