Quick-thinking officers tracked down the crooks who preyed on a man with cerebral palsy, according to police

The man was at a Mission Valley Shopping Center in the 10400 block of San Diego Mission Road last Tuesday afternoon when the crime occurred, according to investigators. A witness told NBCSanDiego that she saw some teenagers steal or demand the victim's bus pass and iPod, which the 27-year-old man turned over.

Officers were called out and were able to locate the suspects and take them into custody. Police said the Elder Abuse Unit is handling the investigation because the victim is a dependent adult. The penal code section specifically addresses those who can't care for themselves, even if they aren't elderly.
