An unlicensed driver ran a red light Saturday and hit an off-duty fire captain who was riding his bicycle in Pacific Beach, firefighters said.

It happened on Grand Ave and Mission Boulevard at about 8:45 a.m.

Initially it was thought the victim had a broken hip, but police later said his injuries were not thought to be that serious.

The driver was cited and let go.
