The animal was killed in the 700 block of 40th Street

A police officer shot and killed a pit bull that bit another officer as they were trying to execute a search warrant in the Mount Hope area, authorities said.

The animal was killed in the 700 block of 40th Street around 5:50 p.m. Thursday after it bit an officer on her forearm, said San Diego police Sgt. Rich Nemetz.

A group of officers had gone to the location to serve a search warrant to Theodore Rybczyk who they believed was selling methamphetamine at the address, San Diego police spokesperson Mónica Muñoz said.

Rybczyk was found hiding in the closet in the bedroom where the dog was shot. He was arrested for being a parolee at large, felon in possession of a firearm and felon in possession of ammunition.

The officer who was bitten suffered a puncture wound and was treated at a hospital, Nemetz said.

Khang Nguyen and Erwin Flauta were also arrested for possession of meth and weapons.
