The Italian German Shepard found wandering near Interstate 5 on June 16, has a long road to travel before he finds his new home. The dog named "Cane" is off to a local German Shepard rescue facility, where he will recover and begin his search for a new home.
San Diego Animal Control Officials found the dog's legal owner, who decided he could no longer care for the animal. The shelter's behavioral staff found the dog had been traumatized by his ordeal and needed time to rest, and to be re-socialized, so they called in a local rescue.
Once the dog is ready for adoption, the organization will help him find a new home.
California Highway Patrol officers found the dog wandering around the Gilman Drive Park-N-Ride lot near Interstate 5. Officers with San Diego County Animal Control discovered the dog was micro-chipped. After a short search, officers found a Navy Sailor purchased the dog in Italy, while stationed aboard the U.S.S. Mount Whitney; now living in Coronado the sailor came home one day to find the pooch missing.
