2 Locals Make “Richest” List

Forbes Magazine is out with its new list of the 400 richest Americans and two San Diegans are included with the Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerbergs of the world.

Investment adviser and San Diego State University alum Charles Brandes came in at 239 with income worth $1.5 billion. He s the founder and Chairman of Brandes Investment Partners, LP and serves on a number of boards including the Salk Institute of Biological Studies and the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego.

La Jolla resident Irwin Jacobs came in at 365 on the list. His wealth, $1.1 billion. The Qualcomm co-founder worked in the early 70s as a professor at the University of California, San Diego. Jacobs and his wife Joan are reportedly among the U.S. billionaires who joined Gates and Warren Buffet in the commitment to give away at least half of their wealth for charity.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is the person on the list who gained the most over the past year. He has watched his wealth grow 245 percent despite the recession to the tune of $6.9 billion.

The top of the list looks similar to many.

3. Larry Ellison, $ 27billion
