Inhaling the pulverized powder of Smarties certainly seems dumb.

Just say no to... "smoking" Smarties?

It's apparently the newest fad among America's youth. YouTube video shows kids teaching other kids how to do it. They crush up the candy, inhale the powder, then exhale the sugary dust, pretending it's smoke. It's not really smoking, because real fire isn't involved.

And this new trend is troubling to parents and health experts. First of all, it glorifies smoking. And it's quite startling to see a middle school student pretend to smoke.

It's also a real health threat. Some say the practice can lead to chronic conditions such as smokers' cough, infections and choking.

Officials at Ce De Candy, the makers of Smarties, told the Wall Street Journal the craze is "just dumb."
