Nurses Don Throwback Uniforms

If you need proof of a uniform that’s not exactly uniform, check out scrubs.

They come in all colors, patterns and styles. There’s the exotic (animal patterns), the cheery (happy faces or hearts), the nonsensical (fruit salad), the pediatric (Dora or Hello Kitty) and the fanatic (NFL logos or I Love Lucy).

For one day at a San Diego hospital, nurses shunned the scrubs and pulled out the white cap, smock and pantyhose.

Nurses working in the CCU (Cardiac Care Unit) at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla wore "classic" nurses uniforms in honor of Nurses Week.

Not your cheap Halloween-costume-Frederick’s-of-Hollywood style but rather along the lines of Nurse Dixie on "Emergency 51" or Nurse Ratched in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."

For the patients of Scripps Memorial, we hope there were more Nurse Dixies in the bunch.
