Mix two tablespoons of diced cranberries, a cup of brown sugar, almond oil and five drops of orange essential oil. Now rub it on your feet. In the evening, take time out for a cocktail pedicure. One option entails getting a café latte exfoliating foot scrub, a cocoa butter balm wrap and, for your ingesting pleasure, a vodka-infused Chocotini.

That’s how they roll at The Spa at Rancho Bernardo Inn. A “Made Fresh Daily” program is a menu of seasonal body treatments developed by the spa staff working in conjunction with the property’s chefs.

I sampled this refined version of the cafeteria food fight: A mixture of watermelon, cucumber, three tablespoons of sugar and a nice dollop of aloe was rubbed on my hands. The savory-smelling blend of a cup of ground coffee, brown sugar, almond oil and a tablespoon of vanilla extract was brewed on my back.

These treatments are generally 50 minutes, but The Spa also offers them in 20 minute increments -- for those who are busy and don’t have a lot of time or want to sample several services back-to-back-to-back.
You can also order small tasting bites that correspond to your “Made Fresh Daily” treatment.

“All of these options in The Spa bring executive chef Judd Canepari’s culinary arts into the mix,” spa director Michelle Schlekewey said.
Some folks even opt to make a complete midday meal out of their treatment time, Schlekewey added.

Thus bringing new meaning to the phrase “Lunch is on me.”
