First Baby Of New Year Born In Oceanside

It will be easy to remember Curtis Anthony Johnson's birthday. He was born on 1-1-11 and was the first baby born in the New Year in San Diego County.

Curtis was born 10 seconds after midnight at Tri City Medical Center in Oceanside and weighed 6-pounds, 14-ounces.

His mother, Kristin Johnson, was more than just a little relieved after spending almost 29-hours in labor. She says she had a goal in mind, but it wasn't to have the first baby of the New Year.

“The goal was having him before the New Year, so we'd get the tax write off, but he ended up being at midnight,” said Johnson.

They missed the tax write off by 10-seconds.

“We're definitely happy, excited and just happy that he's happy and healthy,” said Johnson.

Father Zac Johnson is a former Marine who served two tours of duty in Iraq.

Baby Curtis also has a sister, two-year-old Fiona.
