Going Brown? Go Green

Get in the holiday spirit Friday at the Chestnut Hill tree lighting ceremony.

Christmas has come and gone, but if you still have your tree, think twice before tossing it out.

The city of San Diego has launched its Christmas Tree Recycling Program. It runs through Jan. 23 at 16 locations across the city where you can take a tree to recycle it into mulch or you can put it in your curbside green waste recycling.

"This program is highly successful," said District 3 Councilman Todd Gloria. "Last year it reduced the number of trees going into the landfill by about 146,000. That's extending the useful life of our landfill while at the same time creating free mulch for residents to use in their homes."

Resident can get mulch from the Miramar landfill any time.
