Voters Reject Parcel Tax for Schools

Voters also turned down a parcel tax to raise money for schools in the San Diego Unified School District.

Proposition J needed a two-thirds vote to pass. It didn't meet that threshhold, but it did get a majority. With 28 percent of precincts reporting, 53 percent voted for the measure.

San Diego Unified School Board president Richard Barrera said the results will mean cuts to education, but again, he hopes the state will now pass a budget on time---- one that he hopes will benefit education.
