Wind Brings Down Tree With “Ginormous Thump” in Northridge, Damaging Cars

Three or four vehicles were damaged by a fallen tree, likely brought down by high winds, in Northridge Sunday night.

Firefighters were called to the 18500 block of Napa Street where they found the tree blocking the entire street and several power lines down. Two Mercedes were trapped under the tree, which neighbors said set off car alarms when it fell.

"I got a call saying that the trees fell down. According to them, it was like a ginormous thump," said Andy Gonzales, owner of the crushed Mercedes.

Gonzales said the value of the cars was about $6,000.

"I'm glad nobody else got hurt. I know the cars took a lot of damage," said Gonzales, who said he'll contact the city about dealing with the damage.
