Staying in a San Francisco hotel room can make you feel like a million bucks.
Many luxury hotel rooms in San Francisco cost $500 and up per night, but one industry expert says these accommodations can cost $1 million each to actually build.
Hotel consultant Rick Swig offered that figure to the San Francisco Business Times to estimate the cost per room of a 200-room luxury hotel with rooms that are at least 500 square feet.
Not only is land expensive in San Francisco, Swig said that luxury hotel developers have a tendency to purchase high-end accoutrements for the rooms and bathrooms. His $1 million tag also takes into account the construction of the public spaces of a hotel.
