Men Charged With Growing Pot on Boy Scout Land Near Santa Rosa

SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) — Two men are facing charges for growing pot plants on a half-acre of Bay Area Boy Scout land, causing thousands of dollars in damage about 30 miles west of Santa Rosa in Cazadero.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports 30-year-old Nicholas Henderson and 31-year-old John Henry face felony charges for cutting down trees, stacking logs and using burlap bags to grow 65 pot plants totaling 1,500 pounds at Camp Royaneh.

Damage is estimated at over $280,000, including costs to prevent possible erosion into Austin Creek.
Defense lawyers said in court Wednesday their clients were within their limit to grow medical marijuana and that the cost to repair damage to the property is not nearly as high as predicted.

A preliminary hearing in the case was postponed to July 29.
