Homicide Detectives Aid in Death Investigation of 2-Year-Old Child in Signal Hill

Authorities were investigating the death of a 2-year-old boy in Signal Hill on Sunday, officials said.

Homicide detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were assisting the Signal Hill Police Department with the death investigation at an apartment complex in the 2300 block of Lewis Avenue.

Police received a "baby not breathing" call around 5:45 a.m.

Lt. Steve Jauch said officers performed CPR on the boy before he was taken to Long Beach Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

George Head, who lives in the same apartment complex, told NBC4 that he last saw the child yesterday.

"There was something wrong with the child, his eyes were dark," Head said. "He seemed out of it just lying on the floor."

Details surrounding the child’s death were not available.

"Right now we’re not considering it necessarily a criminal investigation, but we’re going to consider all options," Jauch said.

Investigators said the boy lived with his mother, her boyfriend and family members. They were cooperating with investigators, officials said.
