Homeowner Watches Burglary on Cellphone

A homeowner witnessed an intruder burglarize his North Hollywood home from his cellphone while he was away at work.

The incident happened Friday around 10:30 a.m. when a suspected burglar rang the door bell of a home armed with surveillance cameras. The system immediately sent an alert to homeowner Gregg Garfield's cellphone and began to feed real-time video of the burglary. The intruder kicked down the door and rummaged through the house, stealing jewelry and Garfield's gun as he watched and called the police.

"It was a scary situation. You feel violated. Someone is in your home," Garfield said.

Garfield was able to give the police details about every move the suspect made to help officers arrest him. The burglar escaped through the back of the home, however police combed the area and found the suspect a short time later.

Garfield said he was grateful the suspect was caught and no one was hurt during the burglary.

Police arrested two men in connection with the burglary and were looking for an additional suspect who may have been involved.
