Great America’s Gold Striker Roller Coaster Closed Due to Noise

It's billed as the tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster in Northern California,
and now you can add the noisiest.

Great America's newest attraction, Gold Striker, was temporarily closed down because it's too loud.

Park officials say that the thrill of the ride causes screaming passengers to slightly exceed city noise standards.

A park spokesperson said Tuesday that construction is under way to fix the problem and they expect Gold Striker to reopen by the 4th of July. The ride, now featuring a new tunnel, was back open Wednesday afternoon.

Santa Clara City Attorney Ren Nosky says the work at Great America does not come out of a specific complaint about the noise – it’s part of the settlement of a lawsuit filed by a nearby building owner.

Great America has been monitoring the noise and voluntarily closed down the ride to install the noise abatement equipment.

The roller coaster stands 108-feet high and reaches speeds of up to 54 mph.
