Fire Destroys Huntington Park Commercial Buildings

Eight buildings were damaged or destroyed early Wednesday when fire burned structures in a southeastern Los Angeles County commercial area.

The fire was reported around 1:30 a.m. in the 5700 block of South Hooper Avenue in Huntington Park, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

More than 250 firefighters were at the scene of the fire, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Around 2 a.m., firefighters upgraded the blaze from a two-alarm fire to a three-alarm fire.

Firefighters said 10 buildings were burned, and half them were destroyed. Two houses were also affected by the fire. One home was vacant and the other had six residents were displaced as a result of the fire.

Firefighters said the blaze started in a metal-covered building and quickly spread to nearby businesses.

An employee was inside of one of the buildings when the fire began but was able to escape unharmed.

No injuries were reported.
