Father Charged With Murder in 6-Year-Old Son's Stabbing Death

Witnesses said Alejandro Sanchez was incoherent and covered in blood when sheriff's deputies arrested him.

A father was charged with murder Monday morning for allegedly murdering his 6-year-old son last week.

Alejandro Sanchez, 38, is slated to be arraigned Monday on charges he stabbed his son, Nathan Sanchez, to death.

Nathan was found in a trailer at the rear of a home in the 1600 block of 88th Street in in the unincorporated Florence Firestone neighborhood just after midnight Thursday. He had been stabbed multiple times in the upper torso.

Alejandro Sanchez was screaming incoherently and covered in blood when he was arrested at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies tried to save Nathan and he was rushed to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, but he later died at the hospital.

Sanchez has been charged with one count of murder and one count of assault on a child causing death, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

There is also a special allegation that he used a deadly and dangerous weapon the commission of a crime.

Sanchez is being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Sgt. Luis Nunez said the department believes the boy’s mother died shortly after childbirth, and Alejandro Sanchez had full custody of the child.

Neighbor Gricel Ibarra, whose mother was one of the boy's babysitters, told NBC4 that there were concerns about the boy's well-being.

"(There was) a burn on one of his legs and he would say that he was scared to be with his dad," Ibarra said.

The county’s Department of Children and Family Services said it could not comment on whether they were aware of the Sanchez family because of confidentiality rules.

Deputies said they are investigating whether there were any previous concerns or domestic violence incidents.
