“Beachcomber Bandit” Sought in at Least 2 Coastal City Bank Heists

The robber targets banks in beach cities

The FBI is asking for the public's help to find a man the FBI calls the "Beachcomber Bandit" with a penchant for targeting banks in coastal cities.

The man is described as Asian or Filipino between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-9, 150-170 pounds, 35-45 years old, with medium to dark grey hair and a graying goatee and/or mustache.

He has been seen wearing a black leather jacket and a gray sweatshirt with the hood pulled over a black baseball cap, officials said.

He is responsible for at least two heists at banks in Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo counties.

The man held up a US Bank, at 555 E. Ocean Blvd., in Long Beach on May 13.

Less than a month later, he robbed a Rabobank, at 899 W. Grand Ave., in Grover Beach on June 10.

During the robberies, the Beachcomber Bandit carried a semi-automatic pistol, possibly with a light attached to it.

Holding a small piece of paper in his hand, he approaches the teller window and verbally demands all the money and the big bills.
