Another week of dry and warm conditions led to more severe drought conditions for parts of coastal Southern California, according to this week's U.S. Drought Monitor report.
The report, issued weekly, tracks drought conditions across the country. Drought Monitor researchers use five categories to indicate drought intensity -- Abnormally Dry (D0), Moderate (D1), Severe (D2), Extreme (D3) and Exceptional (D4).

"Short-term precipitation deficits led to expansion of Severe Drought (D2) in southeastern California as well as expansion of a small area of Exceptional Drought (D4) along the coast in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties," according to the report updated Thursday.

Extreme to Exceptional drought conditions were reported in about 72 percent of the state, a figure that remained unchanged over the previous survey period.
Moderate to heavy precipitation is in the forecast for northern California during the next seven days.
