Goodbye to Disney's California Adventure ‘Tower of Terror' Ride

Disneyland and California Adventure fanatics must soon say their final farewell to a "terrifying" park favorite, "The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror."

The ride will be revamped into a "Guardians of the Galaxy" experience next summer, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced Saturday at Comic-Con in San Diego.

The last chance for Disney enthusiasts to plummet 13 stories down the iconic elevator shaft will be early 2017, according to the Disney Parks blog.

Reaction on Facebook wasn't exactly positive; many said the removal of the ride was a bad move, and a sign that Disney was catering to trendy flicks. Audience members reportedly booed at the concept image presented at Comic-Con.

The "Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT!" ride will feature Rocket the raccoon, voiced by Bradley Cooper in the film, enlisting the help of the riders to break the fellow Guardians of the Galaxy out of The Collector's display cases. The ride is said to have a "breathtaking free fall sensation" with "visual and audio effects."

The music featured in the ride will change from 1930s era to popular 70s tunes played by Star-Lord, AKA Chris Pratt's character Peter Quill, in the film.

It slated to open summer 2017 in concert with the sequel's release.
