Thieves in Concord have robbed the Salvation Army of $4,000 worth of toys and other donations intended for needy families, just days before the holiday cheer was to be distributed.
The Contra Costa Times reports the storage box in the parking lot of the Salvation Army's Concord Corps Community Center at 3950 Clayton Road was broken into sometime either late last Thursday or early Friday.
The charity is now in "desperate mode," with the clothes, food, and toys intended for 14 families set to be distributed on Dec. 17 now gone, the newspaper reported.
Most of the goods stolen had been donated by students at Monte Vista High School in Danville, the newspaper reported.
No arrests or suspects have been annonced, though police did find fingerprints on a bicycle left nearby, the newspaper reported.
The Salvation Army in the meantime is looking for other donors who may wish to adopt the 14 families whose holiday gifts were stolen. Anyone interested can email glen.madsen@usw.salvationarmy.org, according to the newspaper.
