Caught on Camera: Thieves Steal Tip Jar from Victorville Doughnut Shop

Owners of a San Bernardino County doughnut shop asked for the public’s help in identifying two males caught on camera stealing a tip jar from inside the store Friday night.

In the video, two males walked into the shop at 8:47 p.m. and looked around for employees, before grabbing a jar and walking out.

"Oh my God, they were so fast and quick and it just freaked me out," said owner Sammy Phon. "How dare they come here and do stuff like that? I was like, 'What gives them the right?'"

Ravin isnt the only victim. Tip jar theft appears to be a growing problem in Southern California.

About a month ago, the owner of Philie B's in San Pedro was hit. Surveillance video from the eatery showed two juveniles stealing a tip jar.

It was the fourth time it happened at the restaurant.

Someone recognized the culprit and he was arrested, along with other members of a tip jar ring that targeted at least five businesses.

"They make themselves an easy target when they leave a large amount of tips in there," said San Bernardino County Sheriff's Sgt. Ken Lutz.

This should be a warning to other businesses, Lutz said.

"Remove the money as it builds up," he said. "Just leave a little to remind your customers that a tip is appreciated. But you should always remove if you build up a lot of tips."
