Big Rig Rollover Prompts Closures on 5, 134 Freeways

The semitrailer rolled onto its side near the Colorado Street exit ramp of the southbound 5 Freeway

A big rig that rolled over while hauling a load of peppers blocked lanes and snarled traffic on the 5 Freeway near Griffith Park on Tuesday morning.

The wreck just before midnight forced the overnight closure of two lanes of the southbound 5 (Golden State) Freeway, and the transition road from the eastbound 134 Freeway to the southbound 5 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Video from the scene showed the trailer on its side just before the Colorado Street exit ramp.

After a seven-hour closure, CHP reopened all lanes and removed the Sigalert about 7:20 a.m. Tuesday.

No injuries were reported in the rollover.

Officials were unsure as to what caused the semitrailer to roll onto its side late Monday night.
