California Man Returns Domino's Delivery Box Full of Cash, Gets Free Pizza for a Year

What happens when you order Domino’s Pizza and get cash instead of wings? That’s the question Mike Vegas (jokingly) asked his friends on Facebook over the weekend.

Vegas, 42, who bartends at AT&T Park and Hawthorne lounge in San Francisco, says he returned the money, of course, and the next thing you know, he was trending online.

"I thought I was going to get Friday off, so I got a large pizza and wings, but then I got a phone call that I would have to go into work," Vegas said. When the pizza arrived, Vegas snuck a piece out and got into the shower. "I got off work really late, and when I came back home I found the cash in the delivery box — a refrigerated deposit ... I was rubbing my eyes at 5 a.m., laughing at myself."

Vegas said that he went off to sleep and when he work up, he got a text message from the pizza delivery guy, who had been trying to reach him all along. "I called him back," he said.

Vegas chronicled the entire episode on Facebook, complete with photos of the two rolled up wads of cash totaling $666 and $623 each.

Mike Vegas returned $1,300 cash he found inside a Domino's delivery box.

“Bank drop gone wrong I’d say LOL,” Vegas wrote at 10 a.m. Saturday. Four minutes later, he wrote: “I'm gonna take it back and ask how much pizza for a month would cost me.”

"Of course people started saying: 'you should keep it, you shouldn't keep it,'" he said.

"That looks delicious!" one commenter said.

"The total of one of those stacks is 666... Don't keep it!!!" another commenter said.

“Whoever that employee is they are in major trouble. Probably going to get fired. Wow. I hope you gave it back hopefully they will give you some free pizza for a while,” someone else chimed in.

A little later, Vegas posted an update, saying he had already called the particular Domino’s location to let them know he would be returning the cash. “Maybe he will be nice and split it with me LOL,” he joked.

And then, a final tease: “Gonna be painful to return... Kid wants car $$!!”

Finally at 5:35 p.m., the big update: “Conclusion - driver is safe and keeps his job, money is back at Dominoes, I was offered free pizza for a year.

“Bonus — karma should drop by my place soon.”

Vegas' phone has been ringing non-stop since then.

As for his plans on how to handle all that free pizza? “I'm gonna have to join a gym ASAP now," he said laughing.
