“Banana Pants Bandit” Steals “Liccardo for Mayor” Sign from Willow Glen Yard

A San Jose neighborhood has labeled a woman the "Banana Pants Bandit" after she was seen on surveillance video stealing a campaign poster from a front lawn while wearing bright yellow pants.

The video was posted on the Facebook page belonging to Willow Glen neighborhood resident Katie Zazueta. In the hi-def clip, a woman jumps out of a car, yanks a "Sam Liccardo for Mayor" sign from Zazueta's front yard, runs back to the car, and then drives away in a dark gray sedan.

Zazueta and her family had left the house on the Fourth of July and noticed the lawn sign missing wen they returned. Then they reviewed the footage recorded by the Dropcam installed on the front porch of their Meredith Avenue home.

The clip was posted to Facebook and has since made the rounds on the Internet, leading some to call the thief "the Banana Pants Bandit."

“Scooby Doo is on this case looking for a lady in very ‘not what to wear’ yellow pants,” Zazueta wrote on her Facebook page.

The Mercury News reports Zazueta is a childhood friend of Liccardo, who is running against county Supervisor Dave Cortese in the November mayoral election. Cortese told the newspaper he had no knowledge of the Banana Pants Bandit.

Zazueta said the theft has not been reported to San Jose police.
