Attackers Beat, Kick Women, Make “Homophobic” Remarks: San Francisco Police

An attack in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood during the massive Gay Pride celebration, in which six men punched and kicked two women and hurled anti-gay comments, may have been a hate crime, police say.

Officer Albie Esparza would not specify the content of the comments, other than to say that the comments were "homophobic."

The two women, aged 27 and 24, were walking south on Ninth Street near Mission Street around 5:30 p.m. when six men approached them and started punching them, police said. They also kicked the 24-year-old victim several times, police said.

The men ran away.

The 27-year-old's left wrist was broken. The other woman suffered cuts and bruising to her head, police said Monday.
