You Are Now $39 Away From Moving About the Country

Southwest Airlines has unveiled a cash-conscious offer just in time for Valentine’s Day.

The Travel Near With Your Dear program allows people in select markets to fly for just $39 one-way. San Diegans can head to, among other spots, Bay Area locations like Oakland and San Francisco, or take a weekend vacation to Las Vegas or Tucson.

The offer does have a few restrictions, though, with the biggest one being that your flight must be booked by Feb. 11 by 11:59 p.m. Passengers must also know when they want to fly: The offer's only valid from March 15 to May 25 and is nonrefundable.

Some are speculating whether Southwest's discount plan will create a price war and if other airlines will follow suit. Recently, companies like American Airlines have made headlines for charging economy passengers $8 for a blanket and pillow, according to The Associated Press, creating some uneasiness about making passengers pay more for what some think are essentials.

Regardless of whether Travel Near With Your Dear prompts imitation by competitors, Southwest’s cheap fares are certainly causing a stir: Many of the available flights have already sold out.
